Rotherfield Primary School
Rotherfield Primary School’s strengths lie in its caring and nurturing environment, dedicated staff and governors, and above all the determination of our pupils to succeed. Over the last four years, we have been exploring the option of expanding to become a one-form entry school. Thanks to the generosity of a local charity, during the summer of 2015 we embarked on an ambitious building project, which will allow us to open a seventh classroom in September 2016. Our school originally opened in 1867, so it is quite fitting that as we celebrate our 140th anniversary, we will also be celebrating our expansion.
We are a friendly, caring school with high expectations for all our pupils. Our children are encouraged to explore, discover and question through a range of exciting learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Our staff work hard to provide a safe, calm and stimulating environment where good behaviour and mutual respect is modelled by everyone, and where everyone is valued. We encourage teachers to take learning outside the classroom and make good use of the surrounding countryside. Each class also participates in a number of trips to enhance their theme work; these trips vary from historical, natural and industrial locations.
Our Year 6 children spend a week in France, learning about World War II, practising their French in the local markets and enjoying the French cuisine. We see our pupils’ time at Rotherfield Primary School as the educational foundation of their lifelong learning journey, and we want them to leave us as confident and enthusiastic learners. We also want our pupils to remember their time at Rotherfield with great fondness, with memories of life-enriching experiences and enduring relationships.

As a Church Aided school, the school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils. We offer an exciting curriculum where teachers and pupils work together to ensure high quality teaching and learning opportunities that enable all pupils to flourish and achieve their very best.
We are very fortunate to have a large number of parents and other members of the community who regularly help in school, supporting a wide range of activities.
